The Kensington Readers’ Cup is a ‘University Challenge’-style competition pitting four Kensington Primary Schools (Colville, Fox, St. Mary Abbots, St. Thomas’s) against each other. The four team members, all from Year 6, have read three books in preparation: The BFG by Roald Dahl, Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce and I am David by Anne Holm. The format will have four rounds: one round of questions for each of the books and then a final round of General Knowledge questions. The aim of the competition is celebrate reading at the Primary School level and to encourage the love of a wide range of books.
The prize is a handsome cup and a trip to Waterstones Kensington for the winning team to choose books for the library of their school.
The Thomas’s Schools Foundation (TSF)
is an independent charity providing educational and extracurricular opportunities for children in the local communities of the four Thomas’s London Day Schools (TLDS) in Battersea, Clapham, Fulham and Kensington. Our current education, art, drama, music and sport programmes touch the lives of over 4,000 school children per year in these communities. TSF has also provided over 30 means tested bursaries for children aged 4-11 to attend a Thomas’s London Day School.
The aim of our programmes is to help build the self-esteem of our local primary school aged children. Our programmes also contribute to the development of their core skills such as reading and writing. We focus on developing these programmes to meet the greatest community needs.
