Pupils at Reay Primary School in Oval are working with English Touring Opera on Laika in Lambeth, a sequel to the company’s currently-touring space opera for young people, Laika the Spacedog.
The opera has been devised during a series of workshops with five Key Stage 2 classes, involving the creation of the design, the words, the story and the music of the piece. Children from St Stephen’s, Wyvil and Vauxhall primary schools in Lambeth are also involved in the project.
The production is performed by 175 of the pupils, along with a professional opera singer, cellist and trombonist, and students from the Royal Academy of Music, at the Grand Hall, Battersea Arts Centre on Tuesday 11 June.
