As Greek As It Gets

“As Greek As It Gets” is quite a multi- purpose name for a restaurant – part statement, part challenge, and potentially an exemplar. It’s also a little tricky, because there`s as many definitions of Greek food in people’s minds as there are islands around the Peloponnesian peninsula. To children of the 70ies, that well worn triumvirate of humus, taramosalata, and tzatziki, topped up with a bowl of black olives, and a bit of pita bread was a vaguely sophisticated set of dips at a drinks party. To others, myself included, it can also consist of being short changed at any number tourist establishments where one is presented with whatever is left as “Greek Salad” Minimalists might applaud a limpid scattering of sliced tomato and cucumber as simple and good (and there`s no doubt in the right hands it can be) but to my mind it’s a little scant to be passing itself off as the national salad.
