Pause awhile, for in that imposing, historic building is the continuous scene of countless stories of courage and of the power of the human spirit to overcome neurological disability resulting from illness and the aftermath of stroke and tragic accident. In this Hospital, which is home for many residents, help comes to them, who so need it, with an aura of caring concern and tireless dedication. The Royal Hospital for Neurodisabilty is a national medical charity, independent from the NHS, which works to improve the lives of adults affected by severe neurological disability through specialist long term care and rehabilitation. It was founded in 1854 and was named, ‘Hospital for Incurables, Putney Heath’. The name changed twice and settled as we know it today. Dr. Andrew Reed, philanthropist, founded it, together with four other foundations to help orphans and people with learning disabilities, sadly, described in those days as ‘idiots’.
