Fun for all the family at Chelsea AutoLegends

Monday, 9th July 2012

On Sunday 2 September Chelsea AutoLegends, London’s unique family day out of fun, fashion, food and cars returns to the iconic Royal Hospital Chelsea for the third time.

Fun
Taking place immediately before the start of the new school year, Chelsea AutoLegends offers everything children need to enjoy themselves on their final day of the summer holidays. This is very much a day for the whole family, with something for everyone.
For those interested in cars the McLaren MP4 12C will be a familiar sight as ‘Lewis Hamilton’; the character voiced and named after the racing driver in the film Cars 2 as was based on this McLaren model.
There will also be an array of physical activities to keep children occupied throughout the day. The ample grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea will host an extensive fairground, zorbing, zorb racing and an assault course. Quizzes about the cars and shows will also be put on, and for younger children there will be face painting and a bouncy castle.

The winner of the Chelsea AutoLegends Schools Poster Competition will receive the ultimate kudos on the first day back at school. This year for the first time, Chelsea AutoLegends is offering school children under the age of 18 the opportunity to see their artwork become the leading visual of Chelsea AutoLegends 2013. Entrants will be split into three groups: 7–11 years, 12–14 and 15–18 and all entrants will receive free entry to the event.
Twenty local schools including Eaton House, Knightsbridge School and Clapham Manor are supporting this competition and encouraging their pupils to take part. Over a hundred entries are expected and the winner will be announced at Chelsea AutoLegends on 2 September following the judgement of a panel of racing drivers, renowned automotive artists and celebrities including Jodie Kidd and a selection of cast members from Made in Chelsea.

Fashion
Chelsea AutoLegends boasts a wide variety of trade stands offering something for all members of the family; from couture and vintage watches to artwork and car accessories. French styling, for both the body and the home, will be particularly prevalent and the Provence style La Rue Marche French Village will be holding more than forty stands offering a range of fine clothes and French élan.

Food
The classic French market atmosphere of a place du Village will be accentuated by the traditional tastes and smells of delicious French foods such as raclette and crêpes.

If French food isn’t your thing, the Mulsanne Food Court will provide an impressive array of food stands from British to Italian so there will be something to suit all tastes. The surrounding picnic areas are the perfect place for families to come together to enjoy a relaxed lunch.

Cars
Central to Chelsea AutoLegends is the celebration of Britain’s automotive and motorsport heritage, and to this end there will be over 500 classic and contemporary sports, racing and rally cars and bikes on show. Highlights include a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Ferrari Enzo and Bugatti Veyron for the enjoyment of petrol heads of all ages.
New for 2012 is the Le Mans Pit Lane which brings the romance of the legendary Le Mans 24 hour race to life in London, and for those with an eye on the future of the British automotive and motorsport industry, this year’s Techno Park arena will be the place to go. Championing innovation, the Techno Park will bring together a collection of cars and technology that will light road for the cars of tomorrow.

Chelsea AutoLegends offers a unique opportunity for teenagers interested in a career in motorsport or engineering as representatives from the Motorsport Industry Association, Formula Student and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers will all be on hand to answer questions about how best to further their career ambitions.

Tickets for this year’s event are now on sale priced at £20 per person in advance. For those aged 12–16 these prices are reduced to £15 respectively. Under 12’s get in for free. For those bringing a car or motorcycle of note, which is welcomed by the organisers, the entry fee is £35 for a car and driver and £25 for a motorcycle and rider.
