V&A's Exhibition Road project gets the green light

Tuesday, 17th July 2012

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has recently granted planning permission for the V&A's Exhibition Road project.

The approved design by AL_A will be developed to create a new purpose-built underground exhibition gallery, a magnificent courtyard space and a new entrance from the recently landscaped Exhibition Road on the west side of the museum.

The scheme will transform a previously inaccessible space into an open courtyard for installations, events and a cafe. It will also reveal the beautiful Victorian facades on the west side of the V&A's Grade I listed buildings which will be restored to their former glory.

Councillor Tim Ahern, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea's Cabinet Member for Planning Policy, said:

"The V&A is one of Exhibition Road's most important institutions and these improvements will help it to continue to delight visitors for decades to come."
