The Londsdale Pub and cocktail bar in Notting Hill is one of those places you might find yourself walking past on the way to your usual Portobello road watering hole. Little would you know of their highly extensive cocktail menu or the restaurant, which has undergone a renaissance and now offers diners a food menu which lives up to its much-feted cocktails. We chose two very different cocktails to start our meal off. My companion had the Black Bison, which he described as refreshing and fruity without being too sweet. I enjoyed the Coral Fizz, a champagne cocktail featuring a Lalique rose vodka infused brown sugar cube slowly melting at the bottom. Absolutely delicious mixes.
I highly recommend the Seared Brixham scallops which come accompanied by ‘textures of cauliflower’ (cauliflower mash), smoked raisins and curry oil. They were delightfully not overcooked. A perfect starter presented like a small piece of art on my plate. My companion chose the ‘White asparagus soup’ which comes with Avruga caviar and chive essence. The soup was creamy and hearty, full bodied without being fatty or too filling. For a main course I had the pan roasted Sea Bass accompanied by a ‘fricassee of mussels’ on a bed of baby gem, sorrel and samphire. The Sea Bass was crispy on the outside but not overcooked and perfectly tender on the inside. My companion had the vegetarian option of ricotta gnocchi with spring peas and broad beans. A very hearty and warm meal and the extra touch of sautéing added extra flavour to the gnocchi and was complimented well by the broad beans and spring peas.
The vanilla pannacotta, white chocolate, poached rhubarb and coconut sorbet was absolutely sublime. A perfect end to this delightful meal.Jason Wallis, former Hawksmoor head chef, has a passion for steak. Take the finest rare breed Cairngorm steaks supplied by Allens of Mayfair, Britain’s oldest and most renowned Master butchers, add home made sauces, serve with triple cooked chips, and the result is mouthwatering delights.
Whether you want to stop off for a few cocktails or enjoy a full blown three course meal, the Londsdale Pub and restaurant provides the right environment to eat drink and be merry.
